Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) linked to 32 distinct health problems
A major 2024 review found ultra-processed foods (UPFs) linked to 32 distinct health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, numerous cancers (like colorectal), cardiovascular diseases (heart attack, stroke), mental health issues (anxiety, depression), sleep disorders, asthma, gastrointestinal issues, and all-cause mortality, affecting metabolic, cardiovascular, mental, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems. These findings suggest UPFs, common in sodas, packaged snacks, and ready meals, negatively impact health due to poor nutrition, additives, and replacement of healthier foods.
